Getting started

Install BinTech, pick a location, create your first bin, and generate your first pick list.

Before you start

BinTech is a Shopify-embedded app. You install it from the Shopify App Store, approve a small set of OAuth scopes, and the app reads your existing inventory the moment it loads. There is nothing to import and no spreadsheets to upload.

You will need:

  • A Shopify store with at least one active Location.
  • Owner or staff access with permission to install apps.
  • Five minutes to walk through the install flow and create your first bin.

1 · Install from the Shopify App Store

  1. 01
    Open the BinTech listing

Search the Shopify App Store for "BinTech" and click Add app. You can also reach the listing directly from shopify-bintech.com.

  2. 02
    Install on your store

Shopify will prompt you to confirm the installation. Click Install app — you will be redirected back to your admin with BinTech open in the embedded admin frame.

  3. 03
    Approve OAuth scopes

BinTech requests read and write access to products, inventory, locations, and orders. These are the scopes the app needs to mirror your inventory and watch for new orders. Approve to continue.

2 · Create your first bin

A bin in BinTech is a named slot inside a Shopify Location. The shape of the name is up to you — A-01, Rack 3 / Shelf 2, Aisle 4 Bay 7 — but it should match what is physically written on the shelf so a picker can find it without thinking.

  1. 01
    Open the Bins page

Use the navigation inside the BinTech embedded admin to open Bins. The page is scoped to a single Shopify Location at a time — you will see the location selector at the top.

  2. 02
    Click "New bin"

Enter the bin name as you would write it on a label. BinTech will warn you if the name already exists at the selected location; bin names must be unique per location, but the same name can exist at different locations.

  3. 03
    Save

The bin is created empty. You will assign products to it next.

3 · Assign a product variant to a bin

  1. 01
    Open the Products page

You will see your full Shopify catalog with a column for the current bin assignment at the active location. Search or filter to the variant you want to slot.

  2. 02
    Open the variant

Click the row to open the assignment drawer. You will see total Shopify inventory at this location, plus any quantity already in bins.

  3. 03
    Assign units to a bin

Pick a bin, enter how many units live there, and save. If you have multiple bins for the same variant, repeat — the per-bin total never has to match Shopify exactly. Whatever you do not place into a bin is tracked as positive variance and surfaces on the Reconciliation page.

4 · Receive your first pick list

BinTech subscribes to Shopify's order webhooks. The next order that lands at a location with at least one assigned bin will generate a pick list automatically — no manual trigger.

You will see it on the Pick lists page in PENDING. Open it and you will see:

  • The order number and customer shipping address (once Protected Customer Data is approved).
  • Each line item, the requested quantity, and the bin BinTech selected based on your active strategy.
  • A picker-friendly view you can hand to staff on a tablet or phone — or share via the public pick URL if your warehouse uses non-Shopify devices.

Next steps

  • Read Pick lists & strategies to choose how BinTech selects bins when a SKU lives in more than one place.
  • Read Multi-location to learn how Shopify Locations map to bins and how to exclude 3PL-managed locations.
  • Read Reconciliation to understand variance and the cycle count workflow.
